Shoulder and elbow pain are effectively treated with physical therapy. We will identify the cause of your pain and prescribe an individualized treatment plan. Most plans of care include: manual therapy, biomechanics training, posture re-education, corrective exercises, modalities to combat inflammation (ultrasound, electric stimulation, laser) and taping (Kinesio or Rock Taping). TMJ & Headache/Migraine Treatment
We're the Experts
Specially Trained to Treat the Head and Jaw
Our therapists are highly trained to provide quality care for head and TMJ pain. A thorough initial evaluation helps us identify movement dysfunction that can be addressed with patient education, manual techniques, therapeutic exercise, and modalities. Regular reassessment provides reassurance that we are always working to achieve patient goals in a cost-effective manner.
Priority One – Pain Relief
Severe head & jaw pain can be disabling. For this reason, our first priority is pain relief. Treating the underlying causes of identifiable movement dysfunction is the next step toward achieving long-term relief and recovery.
A Hands-on Approach
Hands-on techniques, in most cases, are an essential part of a successful head and jaw pain treatment program. Our therapists are equipped with cutting-edge manual skills to assist with the recovery of range of motion, reestablish correct movement patterns, and alleviate muscle related pain and tightness. Coupled with patient education and therapeutic exercise, the results can be dramatic and long lasting.
Evidence is Our Guide
Medical research is continuously providing the clinicians at RNPT with “current best-evidence” guidance so we are equipped to provide the state-of-the-art care to our community members. We look to systematic reviews and random controlled trials to help guide us in the delivery of the best available care. Coupled with regular attendance to continuing education courses, RNPT has a reputation for providing a high quality service to those in need of head and jaw pain rehabilitation. Few treat these issues, so why not get treatment from the best?
Relieves Pain and Inflammation
LASER Therapy is also known as photobiomodulation. It entails the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to generate a photochemical response in damaged or dysfunctional tissue.
The LASER works by creating an increase of vasodilatation (blood supply), bringing in oxygen to the cells. It stimulates the lymphatic system, pulling edema and inflammation from the area. ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) production is stimulated in the cells helping them have the energy to function normally. The pain reflex is broken, offering immediate relief of pain.
LASER therapy can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation and accelerate recovery from a wide range of acute and chronic clinical conditions. Significant reduction in edema (swelling) has been noted, as well as, tissues are better able to move fluids out through lymphatic drainage pathways.
Cleared by the FDA in 2003, Class IV LASER therapy has become standard of care for many musculoskeletal injuries. Class IV LASERs can penetrate over 4 inches into the deep musculoskeletal tissue. The number of treatments required depends on the nature of the problem and the length of time the patient has been affected by it. Some conditions may be resolved with as few as one treatment. However, chronic and/or deep-seated conditions may take as many as 10 treatments.
LASER therapy technology has been recently endorsed by professional organizations such as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), World Health Organization (WHO) and International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). There are no known side effects from LASER therapy and the results are long lasting.
It's all about core strength and posture!
What is Pilates?
After years of neck and low back pain, I finally found something that cured the pain and helped me do everything in my life easier, better, and with more joy! This included: sitting at a computer, going out with my fiends, taking walks through the woods, dancing at weddings, playing golf and tennis, etc. I want to share this amazing form of exercise with everyone – no matter what age, fitness level or ability!
Pilates is the BEST way to incorporate your full BODY and MIND. In short, it helps you MOVE BETTER – which in turn helps you LIVE BETTER. What you practice in an hour long session will translate into better posture, strength, flexibility and overall ability to perform your everyday tasks and activities. It will get you on your way to a healthier lifestyle through MINDFUL movement.
Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat or a variety of equipment, such as the Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, etc. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk, capable of creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen. (Yeah, we know – who doesn’t want that?)
It is a safe, sensible exercise system that will help you look and feel your very best. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates also improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion. It can even help alleviate a wide variety of aches and pains (This is why we use it with our physical therapy patients!!!)
No matter what your age or condition, it will work for you, but don’t just take our word for it. According to the SGMA, in the U.S. alone nearly nine million people participated in Pilates in 2009 – a staggering 456% increase from 2000.
